Vincy Yung (翁頴詩)
Associate
A first-generation immigrant, Vincy Yung understands firsthand what it means to fight for what matters. She brings that same tenacity and determination to every case she handles as a family, estate, and litigation lawyer based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Vincy is licensed to practice law in British Columbia and she first obtained her license in Ontario, giving her a broad perspective across Canadian jurisdictions. She has built a reputation for delivering results across a range of family and civil disputes, achieving favourable outcomes for clients in both provincial court litigation and at both the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Provincial Court of British Columbia.
Her notable case work includes Suniara v. Suniara, 2025 BCSC 2024, in which Vincy successfully obtained a dismissal for want of prosecution of a family law action that had languished for twenty-five years, protecting her client’s property interests and resolving a complex dispute involving multiple proceedings across several registries. She also served as counsel in Saravanan v. Jayaraj, 2025 BCSC 2600, where she secured a declaration of nullity of a civil marriage before the Supreme Court of British Columbia — a rare remedy in modern Canadian family law. The case required Vincy to navigate the intersection of legal doctrine and deeply held religious and cultural traditions, demonstrating her ability to advocate effectively for clients from diverse backgrounds in sensitive and complex matters.
Beyond the reported decisions, Vincy has achieved successful outcomes in a range of other complex family law mattersrepresenting clients in court, including obtaining parenting time and parental arrangement for a party, enforcement of interprovincial arbitration awards, non-placement adoption, forum conveniens applications involving disputes over the appropriate jurisdiction to hear a case, interim child and spousal support proceedings, and matters involving children travelling to non-Hague Convention member states — cases that require careful navigation of international family law principles to safeguard children from the risks of wrongful retention or abduction where treaty protections may not apply. Her breadth of experience reflects her ability to handle cases that cross provincial and international boundaries with confidence and skill.
Vincy has experience assisting families navigating separation where children have special needs, understanding that these cases demand an added layer of care, patience, and tailoringlegal strategy to ensure that parenting arrangements, support obligations, and resources properly reflect each child’s unique circumstances. A passionate advocate for children’s rights, Vincy firmly believes that every child deserves to have their voice heard in proceedings that shape their future. She works to ensure that children’s perspectives and best interests remain at the center of every family law matter she handles.
Vincy also encourages parties going through separation to carefully consider, especially in circumstances where family violence is present, how best to reinstate stability in the lives of both the children and the parents. She believes that safety must always come first, and that a thoughtful, measured, and well-planned approach to separation — one that prioritizes de-escalation, appropriate boundaries, and the emotional well-being of the children — lays the foundation for healthier outcomes for the entire family. Vincy is committed to guiding her clients through these difficult situations with sensitivity, ensuring that legal strategies are crafted not only to protect her clients’ rights but also to foster an environment in which children can begin to transition in a healthy manner.
Vincy obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree in the United Kingdom before furthering her legal education at the Osgoode Hall Law School, one of Canada’s most respected law schools. During her studies, she was an avid competitor in the Asian Debate Club at the University of British Columbia, where her team captured first place. She was called to the bar in June 2024 and is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Law Society of Ontario, and the Canadian Bar Association.
Drawing on her unique perspective as a woman of color and an immigrant, Vincy connects with clients from all walks of life. She combines sharp legal expertise with empathy and cultural awareness, reflecting her deep appreciation for diverse backgrounds and individual needs. Fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, she is well-equipped to serve Vancouver’s vibrant multicultural community.
Vincy knows that behind every legal dispute is a person or a family seeking fairness — and she makes it her mission to secure it.
