Partner Brandon Hastings led hands-on AI session at BCCAT’s Annual Continuing Education Conference

Vancouver, BC

Northpoint Legal LLP is pleased to share that partner Brandon Hastings led a practical, hands-on session on the responsible use of large language models (LLMs) for administrative decision-makers at BCCAT’s Administrative Justice Essentials Conference (Nov. 4–5, 2025). BCCAT described the event as “two dynamic days of essential learning … while completing over 13 CPD credits.”

Brandon’s session—Prompt, Parse, Proceed: A Discussion of AI for Decision-Makers—discussed how LLMs work (tokens, parameters, context windows), where they can safely support tribunal workflows, and guardrails (including human-in-the-loop oversight), to give tribunal members a feel for using LLMs and AI to enhance justice in the province. The session blended clear explanations with live demos using BC-relevant materials so attendees could see grounded prompting in action.

This topic aligns with Northpoint Legal’s client-service ethos: delivering timely advice, managing cases economically, and resolving disputes with precision—whether through settlement, ADR, or trial. We view practical AI literacy as a way to serve clients better—clearer analysis, faster iteration, and no delegation of judgment.

Brandon also contributes to the profession’s conversation on modernization. He is BarTalk Magazine’s “(Re)Designing Practice” columnist and a frequent writer on innovation in law. Recent pieces include “AI Won’t Replace Lawyers — But It Might Save the Practice” and features on professional culture and access to justice.

In the justice-innovation community, Brandon co-founded Vancouver Legal Hackers and created The Justice Hack, B.C.’s largest A2J hackathon. Northpoint Legal’s work has been recognized nationally. The firm has been named among Canadian Lawyer’s Top Insurance Defence Boutiques (2023–24) and recognized in Best Law Firms – Canada.

We’re proud to pair that track record with forward-looking training that helps decision-makers use new tools responsibly.
